Understanding TMS

Coming to an understanding of The MindBody Syndrome (TMS) can be a big step forward in the healing journey.

TMS was initially proposed by Doctor John E. Sarno, who was a famous American back doctor.

Sarno’s book THE MINDBODY PRESCRIPTION details what TMS is, and you can get it from Amazon.

For many people suffering chronic conditions, grasping these principles and acting on them can be a really big part of recovering.

Learning about the underlying mechanism of TMS can help you learn how to reduce symptoms, allowing you to regain some control over your life.

Amari believes that Sarno’s books are a great first step towards relief from pain, chronic anxiety, fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Pots, ME/CFS, Longcovid, back issues, ibs and other chronic complex health conditions.

However, it is not easy to cure ourselves just by reading the book(s) alone, so it can be great to have support. Amari takes Dr. Sarno’s ideas and principles and makes them actionable for you.

For Amari’s own journey, coming to an understanding of TMS was instrumental in recovering. She began to see the root cause of her symptoms and then she could take action to change her responses, soon quickly able to come out of crashes and to reduce flare-ups.

Therefore she is happy to work with you on this if you would like to consider looking at the Mindbody syndrome as part of your healing journey.

The coaching with Amari is designed for people in various states of ability / disability – including housebound and bedbound – and so we can go at your own pace.

You can gain practical knowledge and guidance on how to manage and alleviate your symptoms through understanding TMS.

Note: You may see TMS referred to in other places as tension myositis syndrome, also tension myoneural syndrome or mindbody syndrome, and it’s the same theory proposed by Dr John E. Sarno.

Some practitioners are also calling it Pain Reprocessing Therapy and Perceived Danger Response, and these appear to be very helpful as a first stage to help the nervous system. However, as an overall healing approach for chronic complex conditions, it seems to work better to use the TMS theory and approach originated by Sarno, as there are more layers and nuance this way which can be tailored to your unique personal recovery journey.
